Wonderware West Tech Note 070 - SCADAlarm 6.0 Recommended Modems

 

Summary

The purpose of this Tech Note is to provide the most up-to-date information regarding modems that have been tested or recommended with SCADAlarm 6.0. As this information changes, we will post revisions/updates to this Tech Note. See Updates below.

 

SCADAlarm 6.0 Modem List

Recommended

 

·         Way2Call Hi-Phone Desktop USB - Full duplex. Voice but no Alpha Paging.  Cost around $300. 

o        Full duplex

o        Need to get Hotfix w2cUSB.dll for memory leak from Way2Call.

·         MultiTech MT5656 ZDXV

o        Half duplex

o        Works when using this version of the modem driver from MultiTech.

§         Driver version 6.9.10.7

§         Driver date 9/10/2007

Update April 16, 2009: Note that the Multitech web site says the current driver is 6.10.2.7. However, when you download that zip file and edit the 5656.inf file you will see this version in the text:

DriverVer=09/10/2007, 6.9.10.7

So, the driver on the Multitech web site should be good to use.

Maybe

 

·         AOpen FM56-PLX PCI Modem.  Cost around $25.  Voice and Alpha Paging work. AOpen FM56-PLX v.92 modem, P/N 91.AC001.3780. ***Modem can be bundled With ScadAlarm – Check with your local Distributor***

o        Update: October 1st, 2008: *There is a known issue recorded in the Wonderware Knowledge Base: SCADAlarm; Version 6.0 SP2 P01 (although version is irrelevant) -:- AOpen FM56-PLX modem not recognized on computers with only PCI-X bus. Computer may blue screen.

§         Cause: USER REQUESTED INFORMATION. This question or information is routinely requested by Wonderware Customers.

§         Resolution: Use a computer with a PCI or PCI Express bus or use a different modem 

o        Issue: winachcf.sys thread leaking with SCADAlarm and AOpen FM56-PLX modem on Dual Core computer. There is an investigative Change Request # L00079228 and a Hotfix Request# 1156 assigned for this issue. If you believe you are experiencing this problem, please contact your local Distributor and open a case to determine if this Hotfix is available. Current issue not recorded in the Wonderware Knowledge Base. Update: November 5, 2008:  Wonderware Development just finished analysis of this problem and determined that it is not a bug in SCADAlarm, but an issue with the modem driver.

§         Resolution: Alternative options include: Disable dual core in the BIOS, if possible.  Some computers allow this.  The issue is not related to hyperthreading. Use a different modem.

·         Creative Blaster V.92 USB External, model DE5671-1

o        Some customers have sound quality problems, but resolved with 3rd party voice package from Neospeech.  SR #19815553 reported incompatibility with DELL Precision 380.

·         Dynex DX-M100

·         Intel 536 EP Modem. 

o        Note following SR #15314604 Call out only rings once with Intel 536 EP Modem

§         Q: Call out only rings once. Intel 536 EP Modem. There was a message in either the SCADAlarm Log file or the vox_api.txt or vox_drv.txt mentioning remote hangup detection.

§         A: Unchecked Remote Hangup Detection, restarted SCADAlarm, and it worked fine.

 

 

Not Recommended

 

  • MultiTech MT5600 ZDXV – Works, but not sold anymore
  • MultiTech MT5634ZBA-V-V92. Has bad sound quality on calls.  We have worked with MultiTech Technical Support, but have not been able to resolve the issue.
  • Zoom 3048
  • Dialogic card – difficult installation, card + drivers cost about $1000

 

 

SCADAlarm 6.0 Published Tested Modem List

Here is the list of modems that have been tested internally by Wonderware. Some are no longer available for purchase, but they are worth mentioning because Wonderware QA'd SCADAlarm 6.0 with these modems.

1. D-Link - DFM 560 ES External Data, Fax, Voice Modem.

2. USR - 56K Fax External Modem.

3. DAX - 56K V.92 External Data, Fax, Voice Modem.

4. ACE - Cool Surfer 56K External (Data, fax, Voice) Modem.

5. Zoom 56K V.92 PCI Internal Fax Modem.

6. Creative Blaster V.92 USB External Modem.

7. 3COM US Robotics (56K Voice Fax Modem Pro) - Model 0525. (Serial/External)

8. Creative Modem Blaster V.92 DE5671 (USB/external)
